Fresh indigo leaves from the garden

This weekend we collected a few Japanese Indigo leaves from our garden and tried a very simple recipe that we found here.
We chopped the leaves, put them in water and added vinegar. At the beginning the solution looked green and we doubted of its effectiveness, but as time went by it started turning blue. Then we removed the samples from the vat and let them oxidize. The colour went from green-blue to blue.

We only made samples with carded wool and silk fabric. The next step is to try with bigger amounts of indigo leaves and yarn.
