Textile Arts Center – NYC
Last week I had the chance to visit the Textile Arts Center – their studio and dyeing garden in Brooklyn and the store in Manhattan.
I got to see lots of happy faces of kids who took weaving and dyeing classes: «Working on a bead loom, teens will explore elements of design and patternmaking to better understand the construction of traditional ikat weaving. With this experiential knowledge, students will approach the loom with dyes and brushes, trying their hand at both warp and weft painting. Students will walk away with hands on learning, a historical sense of the process they are working on, and a beautiful woven textile.» (http://textileartscenter.com/teens)
Not only they offer various weaving, printing and natural dyeing classes, they also organize a getaway program, which takes place in the region of the Catskills in semi-open studios at Keshini Fiber Farm.
If you don’t want to travel that far but still would like to learn more about dye plants you can visit the center’s dyeing garden in Brooklyn or attend natural dyes classes.
This is just a small insight into the Textile Arts Center’s program. For more information check out their website or blog.
