Cream of Tartar / Potassium Bitartrate

Cream of tartar as an additive to the alum mordant for the purpose of protecting the textile fibres

Please note:
Potash alum is probably the most commonly used mordant in natural dyeing, but it can attack delicate textile fibres such as wool. The addition of tartar reduces this effect. You can find a mordanting recipe and more information here (it also works if you are already on our newsletter list). If in doubt, please read it before ordering.
