Spinning with the Hand Spindle – with Sibylle Peter (German)

The creative textile process often begins with the choice of yarn. But what if we could already design the yarn ourselves?

In this workshop you will learn how to spin a thread from wool fibres with a hand spindle. To start with, we will use wool from Graubünden Oberland sheep from the local Fibershed (Zurich Oberland).

Between the spinning exercises we will look at the whole way from fibre to yarn: Washing raw wool, the different fibre preparations and different types of spindles.

At the end we will twist the threads into a first yarn.

You can take the simple hand spindle and a selection of carded fleece and combed yarns home to practise.
