Batik Tulis – with Marlies Rüegg
A white piece of fabric, a canting, liquid wax and indigo – these are some of the ingredients needed for Batik Tulis. In this workshop we dive into the centuries-old history of Batik. Where does this reserve technique originate, which motifs were worn by the sultans and why were there forbidden patterns? For 10 years this traditional technique has been UNESCO World Heritage.
Design your own pattern or motif and learn how to apply the wax to the fabric with the canting (pen-like device). First we experiment on fabric remnants and will then batik and dye a larger piece of cotton.
