Advanced Techniques in Crochet: Make Your Own Lace Brooch – with Dorota Majzer

Are you ready to take your crochet to the next level? This workshop is a great opportunity to learn some advanced techniques by making your own fashion accessory: a brooch (which can alternatively be turned into a pendant, or appliqué: the possibilities are endless!). You will end up with a beautifully structural piece of crochet lace, made with mercerised cotton thread. You can keep it for yourself and make more as gifts for your friends, as you will take the pattern home.

You will learn some more complex techniques, like:
– front- and back-post stitches
– clusters of stitches

You will learn to read the written and graphic (chart) instructions for crochet.
We will also cover the finishing of your piece, including steam blocking of the motif, which will bring out the stitch definition.

The workshop is lead in a relaxed atmosphere, and the participants are encouraged to work at a pace that is comfortable for them.

Dorota Majzer:
Dot first picked up the crochet hook almost 9 years ago, and she’s hardly put it down since. She began by making crochet toys, and then quickly started exploring the endless possibilities of this wonderful craft. Her crochet comes in all formats: from big festival costumes, to filigree jewellery and other accessories, made with the finest threads and smallest crochet hooks. She has also attempted to bring crochet and science together, in research project exploring the use of crochet and knitting in making artificial muscles for soft robotics. When living in Ireland, she was a member of the Guild of Irish Lacemakers, and explored the deep roots of various traditional lace and embroidery techniques.
