Shibori and Indigo
Literature often refers to it as the king of dyes. For centuries it has been used on almost all continents to dye textiles and it remains in vogue also nowadays. The most popular article of clothing owes its color to indigo: the Blue Jeans. But indigo is also used in various resist dyeing processes and is especially inseparable from the Japanese folding and tying technique Shibori.
This workshop will not only give you an insight into the different types of Shibori but also into the complex indigo dyeing process. You will learn a recipe, dye various textile samples and a larger piece of silk (approx. 175 x 35 cm) using Shibori folds.
