Knitting – for Beginners
Knitting allows you to create unique, long-lasting garments and accessories. It is a fun, relaxing activity that can be practiced at home, on the train, alone or with fellow knitters.
In this beginners course you will learn the logic behind knitting. You will be capable of knitting different stitches, creating textures and developing simple projects.
Day 1
Materials and tools, fibres, yarns, types and thicknesses
Labels: composition, care instructions, weight, code, needle size
Needles: types, sizes and uses
English and continental knitting styles
Cast on methods, basic stitches (knit stitch and purl stitch), bind off
Day 2
Basic stitches lexicon: stockinette stitch; garter stitch; seed stitch; double seed stitch; ribbings
Basic knit chart symbols and pattern abbreviations
Simple project development: e.g., scarf with fringes
Day 3
Basic stitches lexicon: English rib; half English rib; linen stitch; cables (“S” and “Z”)

Day 4
Circular knitting – circular needles
Simple project development: beanie or loop scarf
