Crochet – for Beginners
Fully booked – Crochet is a versatile technique, easy and quick to learn. Unlike other crafts, it only requires yarn and a crochet hook. Stitches are worked individually on top of each other so there is no need to cast off at the end of your work. You can create different kinds of accessories, garments and home textiles, in two or three dimensions.
During this course you will learn the basic crochet stitches, how to create textures, to work in rows and in rounds, to read crochet charts and to make a simple beanie.
Day 1:
Materials and tools: fibres, yarns, types and thicknesses
Labels: composition, care instructions, weight, code, needle size
Hooks: types and sizes, holding the hook and the yarn
Basic stitch lexicon: chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half-double crochet, double crochet, treble
Day 2:
Chart symbols and abbreviations, crochet charts reading
Basic stitch lexicon: combination of stitches; textures
Granny squares; colour changes; basic square motifs
Day 3:
Crochet in rounds – flat
Basic stitch lexicon: single crochet, half-double crochet and double crochet circles
Magic loop
Borders and edges
Joining techniques: slip stitch, single crochet, ladder stitch
Day 4:
Crochet in rounds – three-dimensional
Project development: beanie
Finishing: weaving in ends, blocking
