Elementos Argentinos

A few days ago we came back from our holidays in Argentina. We spent a few weeks in beautiful Buenos Aires, visiting friends and family, and doing some sightseeing in the city.
We also had the chance to stop by a very interesting rug shop in the hip neighbourhood of Palermo, called Elementos Argentinos, which means “Argentinean Elements” in Spanish. This unique store is specialized in hand-woven rugs, made entirely of sheep wool, dyed with natural or mineral dyestuffs.
The production is located in different provinces of the north of Argentina and is carried out by craftsmen and weavers that also spin the fibres by hand.
Their offer includes different wool qualities as well as a beautiful palette of hundred colours. The hues are bright and consistent and the textures soft but stable at the same time.

Fernando Bach and Pablo Mendívil run the store and kindly showed us around while explaining details about their business. Not only they have a deep understanding of local traditional textile techniques, they also know each one of the artisans they work with and guarantee fair working conditions and a constant demand for products.

Elementos Argentinos also provides a unique service: their customers have the possibility of designing their own rug, according to their tastes and preferences.
One can choose the pattern, proportions, colour palette and texture, which makes each rug an exclusive, one of a kind item.

The shop itself has a cosy yet modern look emphasised by the polished wooden floor and the fireplace that they use every winter.

If you are visiting in Buenos Aires, don’t hesitate to pass by!
